Nigeria’s Flamingos secured their second consecutive victory at the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup after defeating Ghana’s Black Maidens 4-2 in an entertaining encounter in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Flamingos took control of the contest in the first half, with Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opening the scoring in the 33rd minute.
Nigeria doubled their advantage deep into first-half stoppage time when captain Harmony Chidi found the back of the net, sending her side into the break with a 2-0 lead.
Ghana were handed an opportunity to mount a comeback shortly after the restart when Nigeria were reduced to 10 players.
Elizabeth Adesuyi received a straight red card in the 59th minute following a foul on a Ghanaian attacker.
The Black Maidens quickly took advantage of their numerical superiority, with captain Seidatu Wahab pulling one goal back from the resulting free-kick to make it 2-1.
Despite playing with a player fewer, Nigeria responded strongly.
Mary Dunstan restored the Flamingos’ two-goal advantage in the 70th minute after beating her marker and rounding the goalkeeper before finishing into an open net.
Nigeria continued to threaten despite their reduced numbers, while Ghana struggled to turn their numerical advantage into sustained pressure.
The Flamingos eventually put the result beyond doubt in the 87th minute when Kaosarat Akanji scored from a free-kick to make it 4-1.
Ghana managed to score a second goal through Gloria Ameaa in the 90th minute, but it proved to be only a consolation as Nigeria held on for a 4-2 victory.
The result gives Nigeria six points from two matches in the competition, following their 5-0 victory over Niger Republic in their opening game.
The Flamingos have now scored nine goals in their first two matches, while their victory over Ghana came despite spending more than 30 minutes with 10 players.
The 2026 WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup is also providing valuable preparation for Nigeria ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
The Flamingos will now turn their attention to their remaining matches as they continue their campaign for regional honours.
