Brentford secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Chelsea in Friday’s Premier League clash, with all three goals coming in the second half at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The result extended Chelsea’s winless run in the league to three matches and handed manager Xabi Alonso another setback early in his tenure.
After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Brentford broke the deadlock in the 61st minute through Jaidon Anthony.
Jannik Schuster headed a corner from Mikkel Damsgaard back across the Chelsea goal, allowing Anthony to react from close range and put the hosts ahead.
Chelsea struggled to produce a sustained response, while Brentford remained dangerous as the match opened up.
The home side doubled its advantage in the 83rd minute when Igor Thiago followed up after goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez had saved Kevin Schade’s effort on a counter-attack.
Thiago was quickest to the rebound and calmly converted to give Brentford a two-goal cushion.
Brentford completed the victory in stoppage time when substitute Fábio Carvalho finished from close range after Schade supplied the final pass.
The win marked Brentford’s first home victory over Chelsea since 1938 and maintained their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 Premier League season. The result also moved Brentford up to third place, while Chelsea remained seventh.
Chelsea’s defensive problems continued, with the Blues yet to keep a clean sheet in the league this season. They have now conceded 12 goals across their opening five Premier League matches.
The defeat was also Chelsea’s third consecutive league game without a win. Their attacking threat was limited, with Brentford becoming the first team to prevent them from scoring in the Premier League this season.
Chelsea were without several key players, including forward João Pedro, who missed the match through injury. Captain Reece James and midfielder Moisés Caicedo were also unavailable.
The defeat leaves Alonso with the international break to address Chelsea’s defensive weaknesses and improve the team’s consistency before their next league fixture.
For Brentford, the victory continued an impressive opening to the campaign under manager Keith Andrews, with the Bees collecting nine points from their first five league matches.
