Chief Daniel Okoro was widely revered as one of the foremost political figures in Okpe Kingdom. As the pioneer Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okpe Local Government Area, he played a significant role in shaping the political landscape of the area while earning admiration for his commitment to community development, unity and selfless service.
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday led an array of political leaders, traditional rulers, family members and well-wishers to bid a final farewell to the late Chief Daniel Okoro, the Odudbu of Okpe Kingdom, during a funeral service held at Oyenke Inland in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State. The gathering celebrated the remarkable life and enduring legacy of the respected community leader, who passed away at the age of 116.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Chief Adviser to the Delta State Governor, Senator Ighoyota Amori; former Director-General of the Delta State Public Procurement and Property Protection Authority (PPPPA), Hon. Gibson Akporehe; political associates, traditional leaders and other prominent personalities who came to pay their last respects to the elder statesman.
Speaking with journalists after the service, Hon. Gibson Akporehe described the late Chief Okoro as a blessing to Okpe Kingdom and a political pathfinder whose contributions would continue to inspire generations. He said the deceased dedicated his life to serving his people with integrity and wisdom, praying that God would grant him eternal rest while urging his family to uphold the values and legacy he left behind.
In his tribute, Senator Ighoyota Amori described the late Chief Okoro as a pillar of Okpe politics and an embodiment of unity. According to him, the deceased’s vast political experience, wise counsel and unwavering commitment to the growth of Okpe Kingdom and Delta State would be greatly missed by leaders and the people alike.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Bright Ofomala, popularly known as Otoloko, described the late Chief Daniel Okoro as a unifying figure whose love, wisdom and leadership kept the family together. He said the deceased always carried everyone along and remained a source of strength and inspiration to his children and relatives. According to him, Chief Okoro’s passing would not create a vacuum, as he raised children who are already making meaningful contributions in society and are committed to preserving and building upon the enduring legacy he left behind for future generations.
Similarly, the first son of the deceased, Hon. Henry Okoro, remembered his father as a man of truth, courage and unwavering principles. He said the late patriarch believed strongly in education and worked tirelessly to ensure his children received the best opportunities in life, describing him as the family’s backbone, an exceptional leader and a hero whose memory would forever remain cherished.
Also paying tribute, the Private Secretary and Personal Assistant to the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Chief Napoleon Akpobacha, described the late Chief Daniel Okoro as a trusted friend, a man of impeccable character and a respected leader who consistently stood for justice, truth and the progress of his people.
The funeral service was officiated by Pastor Chinaza Onyenkwere of Living Faith Church, Okwabude, who urged Christians to live righteous and purposeful lives by placing God’s kingdom above worldly pursuits. Preaching from Matthew 6:33, he reminded the congregation that earthly wealth and achievements are temporary, while a life devoted to God carries eternal significance.
The cleric further noted that death is an inevitable reality that should inspire every believer to remain spiritually prepared at all times. He stressed that every individual would one day give an account before God, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of Chief Daniel Okoro’s soul and for divine comfort, strength and wisdom for his bereaved family.
The ceremony ended with heartfelt tributes from dignitaries, political associates and community leaders, who described Chief Daniel Okoro as one of Okpe Kingdom’s most distinguished sons. They affirmed that his legacy of political mentorship, community service, humility and dedication to the growth of the People’s Democratic Party and the development of Okpe Local Government Area would continue to inspire future generations and remain an enduring part of Delta State’s political history.
