OPay has disclosed that its various social impact initiatives have benefited more than 15,000 people across Nigeria, with programmes focused on education, innovation and women’s economic empowerment.
The company made the disclosure in a statement issued on Wednesday, explaining that it has been using technology, partnerships and other resources to expand opportunities in education, skills development, innovation and financial inclusion.
According to OPay, more than 1,200 people have directly benefited from its OPay Scholars Programme. The initiative includes the National Innovation Challenge, the OPay Futures programme and a 10-year scholarship commitment valued at N1.2 billion.
The fintech company said the National Innovation Challenge, implemented in collaboration with Google and the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, is designed to equip young Nigerians with relevant skills and support innovative solutions to real-life challenges.
OPay also highlighted its Play4aChild initiative, which it said has reached more than 14,000 direct beneficiaries. The programme provides educational materials and other forms of support intended to improve children’s learning experiences.
In addition, the company said its Women Empowerment Programme has supported more than 100 women through skills training, capacity building and startup assistance.
OPay explained that the support is intended to help beneficiaries develop sustainable sources of income and improve their level of financial independence.
The company said its corporate social responsibility strategy goes beyond one-time donations, focusing instead on creating opportunities that can produce longer-term benefits for individuals and communities.
It added that technology companies could play a meaningful role in advancing education, youth development and economic empowerment by working alongside government institutions, schools and development organisations.
The company said its initiatives reflect its broader commitment to using technology and partnerships to contribute to social and economic development in Nigeria.
