OSOGBO, Aug. 15, 2026 — Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the reported arrest of the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Bisi, describing the development as an attempt to intimidate political supporters during the ongoing governorship election.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor alleged that Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa shortly after returning from his polling unit where he had cast his ballot.

According to the statement, Bisi was reportedly taken away by security personnel to an undisclosed location, while his family and associates were yet to receive an explanation for the arrest.

Adeleke expressed concern that the arrest could prevent the PDP chairman and other party members from monitoring the collation of election results across the state.

The governor further alleged that the development was part of a wider attempt to restrict his supporters from accessing collation centres and potentially manipulate the outcome of the election.

He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and unnamed security personnel of working together to undermine the electoral process, although the allegation had not been independently verified.

Adeleke described the reported arrest as a serious threat to democracy and called for Bisi’s immediate release.

He also appealed for the release of other political detainees allegedly arrested across Osun State, stressing that voters should be allowed to freely exercise their democratic rights without intimidation or coercion.

The governor’s spokesperson urged all parties involved in the election to respect the will of the electorate and allow the electoral process to proceed according to established rules.

The circumstances surrounding Bisi’s reported arrest, including the reason for his detention and his current location, were not immediately clear.
