The Lagos State Government has introduced a new requirement for pupils and students seeking admission or enrolment in schools across the state.
Beginning from September 14, 2026, all public and private schools in Lagos will be required to obtain and document the valid registration number issued by the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) for every learner.
The directive applies to both new admissions and existing learners and is expected to become part of schools’ official registration and record-keeping procedures.
The order was issued through the Office of Education Quality Assurance following approval by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun.
Under the new arrangement, schools are expected to include each learner’s LASRRA registration details in relevant admission documents and school records.
Parents Asked to Complete Registration
School authorities have also been directed to inform parents and guardians about the new policy and encourage families whose children have not yet completed LASRRA registration to do so.
The state government said the measure is aimed at developing a reliable and comprehensive database of children and young people living and attending schools in Lagos.
According to the government, having accurate information on learners will support more effective education planning and administration across the state.
The database is also expected to assist authorities in maintaining up-to-date school records, monitoring learners and verifying the identities of pupils and students.
Policy Takes Effect September 14
With the new requirement scheduled to commence on September 14, schools are expected to incorporate LASRRA registration into their admission and enrolment processes from the beginning of the 2026/2027 academic session.
Parents and guardians whose children are yet to obtain valid LASRRA registration are therefore expected to complete the process to avoid difficulties during school admission or enrolment.
The Lagos State Government said the initiative is part of broader efforts to improve data management and strengthen planning within the state’s education sector.
