A Southwest ex-officio member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, has criticised the political coalition associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing it as a threat to the survival and unity of the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ewenla, in a statement, said his position was based on his concern for the future of the PDP and was not driven by personal animosity or political differences.

He questioned the involvement of a former PDP leader in a political arrangement which he claimed appeared to favour the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s bid for another term in office.

According to Ewenla, genuine members of the PDP must carefully assess the political interests and allegiances of individuals seeking to lead or represent the party, particularly those who recognise the Wike-aligned faction as the authentic leadership of the PDP.

The Southwest ex-officio also reaffirmed his support for Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, whom he described as the leader of the original and authentic PDP, subject to the outcome of ongoing legal processes and the party’s constitutional procedures.

Ewenla said any effort to reconcile the various factions within the PDP must be based on sincerity, accountability and a genuine commitment to opposition politics rather than political expediency.

He urged PDP leaders, candidates, supporters and other members to remain vigilant and protect the party’s identity and structures.

The PDP chieftain maintained that the party belongs to its genuine members and should remain focused on presenting Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.

His comments come amid continuing divisions within the PDP and political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
