The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to ₦1,200 per litre.

The latest adjustment represents a ₦15 increase from the previous gantry price of ₦1,185 per litre and took effect on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

The refinery communicated the new price to its customers through a notice from its Group Commercial Operations. The communication also revised the price for coastal deliveries.

Under the new arrangement, the coastal price of petrol increased from ₦1,562,265 to ₦1,582,380 per metric tonne.

Dangote Refinery also instructed customers to return existing Authorisation to Collect (ATC) documents for repricing. New volume contracts are expected to be issued before loading resumes under the revised prices.

Second Increase in Less Than a Week

The latest price adjustment comes only days after the refinery increased its petrol gantry price from ₦1,165 to ₦1,185 per litre.

That earlier increase took effect on August 21, meaning the refinery has raised the price by a combined ₦35 per litre in less than a week.

The latest development could put additional pressure on petrol prices across the downstream market as marketers factor the higher acquisition cost into their own pricing.

However, the refinery’s gantry price does not automatically determine the final amount consumers pay at filling stations, as transportation, storage, distribution and other operating expenses also influence pump prices.

The latest increase has also attracted attention because it comes amid a recent decline in international crude oil prices.

Dangote Refinery remains a major supplier in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market, while its growing production has also contributed significantly to the country’s increasing exports of refined petroleum products. The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently reported that Nigeria’s seaborne petroleum-product shipments have increased sevenfold since 2023, largely driven by the Dangote refinery.
