South African authorities have extradited six Nigerian nationals to the United States to face charges over an alleged online romance scam that reportedly targeted more than 100 American women.
The suspects, who were arrested in Cape Town in 2021, were handed over to officials of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Secret Service at Cape Town International Airport.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the men are accused of being members of the Black Axe organised criminal network and are wanted in the United States over alleged wire fraud and money laundering offences.
