Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has approved the appointment of 101 political aides to serve in various capacities within the state government, including popular Nollywood actress Rachael Okonkwo.
The appointments, which take immediate effect, were contained in a public service announcement signed by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on Monday, September 21, 2026.
The new appointees comprise seven Special Advisers, six Senior Special Assistants and 88 Special Assistants, with responsibilities spread across different areas of governance.
Okonkwo, known for her work in Nollywood, was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development.
Her appointment places her alongside five other Senior Special Assistants assigned to portfolios covering inter-party mobilisation, party monitoring, legal and regulatory compliance, boundary and land disputes, and small and medium enterprise development.
The seven Special Advisers appointed by the governor are Chief S.N.C. Nwagu, assigned to Conflict Resolution and Mediation; Dr Fidelis Odo, Inter-Governmental Affairs and Coordination; Augustine Okoli, Policy Affairs and Analysis; Pedro Nwankwo, Stakeholders Relations and Community Affairs; Chimezie Nkwuo, Economic Development; Chief Vitalis Okonkwo, Grassroots Coordination; and Peter Andy Omeje, Commerce and Business Development.
The larger group of Special Assistants will oversee a broad range of responsibilities, including environmental protection, market sanitation, health facility maintenance, road infrastructure, community development, youth engagement and women mobilisation.
Other portfolios cover civic education, voter awareness, public communication, technology and innovation, social media, security intelligence, rural development, sports, gender advocacy and social welfare.
The appointments also include aides responsible for public utilities, cultural orientation, project monitoring, political liaison, inter-party relations, stakeholder engagement and grassroots mobilisation.
According to the state government’s announcement, the appointments are part of the administration’s continuing effort to strengthen coordination across different areas of governance.
All the appointments became effective immediately following the announcement.
