Political stakeholders across party lines in Uvwie Local Government Area have held an extended meeting aimed at fostering unity, peaceful coexistence and a common development roadmap for the area.
The meeting held on Sunday at Kenwood Hotel, Japka Road, Ekpan, brought together leaders across party lines, including the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Chief Sonny Ekedayen.
In his opening remarks, the convener, Hon. Gibson Akporehe, said the meeting was convened to bring political leaders together to foster growth and development of Uvwie.
Hon. Akporehe who recalled growing up in Uvwie, said the area was once characterized by love and unity among residents irrespective of tribe, religion or culture. He therefore called for the restoration of that spirit of togetherness, urging stakeholders to love and support one another regardless of political affiliation.
Other speakers, including Dr. John Agagbo, said the forum will consult with various tribes and interest groups in Uvwie towards developing the political environment and promoting sustainable development.
Dr. Agagbo also stressed the need for the forum to support the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Uvwie LGA Chairman.
He noted that the forum will also provide a platform for stakeholders to resolve differences through dialogue and forge a common front for the development of Uvwie.
Responding, participants commended the convener for the initiative, describing the gathering as an important convergence of political stakeholders towards promoting development and unity.
The meeting ended with a call on all political stakeholders and residents to promote peace and cooperation in Uvwie irrespective of political affiliation.
