The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by his media aide, Abimbola Tooki, the break comes after what was described as an exceptionally demanding first year since Yilwatda assumed leadership of the ruling party.
The statement explained that the vacation is intended to give the APC chairman an opportunity to rest and regain strength following months of extensive political engagements, consultations, travels and strategic activities aimed at strengthening the party.
Since taking office, Yilwatda has worked with members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), governors, National Assembly members, state party executives, elected officials and other stakeholders across the country.
The party leadership has, during his tenure, overseen its national convention and strengthened internal structures, while also conducting primary elections at different levels in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The statement stressed that the vacation should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from party affairs. Rather, it would allow the national chairman to temporarily step away from his daily responsibilities, reflect on the party’s progress and prepare for the challenges ahead.
Yilwatda is also expected to use the period to further develop strategies for the 2027 elections and the next phase of the APC’s growth, particularly as the party works toward consolidating the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Another focus during the break will be preparations for the forthcoming APC NWC retreat. The meeting is expected to enable the party’s top officials to assess its performance, examine emerging challenges and develop strategies for the months leading to the 2027 polls.
The retreat is also expected to improve coordination among members of the NWC and strengthen the party’s readiness for the upcoming electoral season.
The APC leadership maintained that Yilwatda remains committed to the party’s objectives despite his temporary absence from the country. It added that the National Working Committee would continue to manage the party’s affairs in line with its constitution and established procedures.
The national chairman is expected to return to Nigeria after the two-week vacation and resume his official engagements with renewed energy and focus.
