A man identified as Mauroof has approached the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of his marriage and alleging that his wife threatened to poison their son.

Mauroof told the court that his marriage to Latifat had become troubled shortly after she moved into his home, claiming that frequent disagreements and confrontations made the relationship unbearable.

According to his testimony, the couple’s domestic problems extended beyond their relationship, as he accused his wife of repeatedly having conflicts with people within their neighbourhood.

Husband alleges threat against son

One of the most serious allegations presented before the court was that Latifat threatened the life of their first son.

Mauroof claimed that the alleged threat became so disturbing that the boy eventually left the family home because he feared being poisoned by his mother.

He also alleged that his wife had repeatedly threatened to ensure that he was arrested and imprisoned.

Expressing his frustration over the failed marriage, Mauroof told the court that he regretted getting married to the defendant.

Other allegations

The plaintiff also made an allegation involving his brother, who he claimed had seen Latifat collecting sand from the four corners of their residence.

Mauroof presented the act as evidence of what he described as an attempt to engage in diabolical practices.

However, the allegations made in court remain claims by the plaintiff and have not been independently established.

Wife absent from proceedings

Latifat was reportedly not present when the matter came up in court, despite having been served with the court processes.

As a result, the allegations against her were not challenged by her through testimony at the reported sitting.

The customary court will determine the matter based on the evidence and circumstances presented before it.

The case highlights the difficulties that can arise when prolonged disagreements within a marriage escalate into allegations involving threats, family conflict and the welfare of children.

The court is expected to determine the future of the marriage after considering the evidence before it.
