The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued 15 children from Nasarawa State who were allegedly trafficked and sold for a combined sum of about ₦30 million.

The children were reportedly taken from their communities after their parents were allegedly deceived with promises that they would receive better educational opportunities.

According to reports, the suspected trafficker allegedly exploited the parents’ desire to provide a better future for their children before taking the minors away and selling them.

The case came to light following an investigation into the movement and disappearance of children from parts of Nasarawa State.

The NSCDC subsequently intervened and rescued the affected children, who were believed to have been victims of a wider child-trafficking operation.

The development has raised renewed concerns about the activities of individuals who exploit vulnerable families by using education, employment and other opportunities as a cover for trafficking.

Authorities are expected to investigate how the children were moved from their communities, identify other individuals who may have been involved and ensure that those responsible face prosecution.

Child trafficking remains a serious concern in Nigeria, particularly where poverty and limited access to quality education make families vulnerable to deceptive offers.

The rescue of the 15 children underscores the need for parents and communities to exercise caution when strangers offer to take children away for schooling or other opportunities.

Efforts by security agencies and relevant authorities are expected to focus not only on prosecuting suspected traffickers but also on reuniting rescued children with their families and providing appropriate support for their recovery.
