The Super Eagles of Nigeria are facing a major attacking concern ahead of their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches, with star striker Victor Osimhen reportedly set to miss the fixtures.

Osimhen’s expected absence leaves the Nigerian national team with an important decision to make over who will lead the attack during the qualifiers.

The Galatasaray forward remains one of Nigeria’s most influential attacking players, and his unavailability could create a significant gap in the Super Eagles’ frontline.

With the qualifiers approaching, the technical crew will now have to assess the available striking options and determine the player best suited to take responsibility for leading the attack.

The situation could also provide an opportunity for another Nigerian forward to step up and establish himself as a reliable option at international level.

Nigeria will be hoping that whoever is selected to spearhead the attack can deliver the goals needed to help the Super Eagles make a strong start to their 2027 AFCON qualification campaign.

The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, with qualification matches scheduled across the September/October and November 2026 international windows.
