A traditional ruler in Niger State has reportedly been killed by suspected bandits in an attack that has heightened concerns over insecurity in the area.

The deceased, identified as the Village Head of Galla in Borgu Emirate, was reportedly a brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.

According to reports, the monarch was attacked at his palace on Monday, August 24, 2026, after allegedly cautioning suspected bandits against entering his community or engaging in criminal activities.

Sources said the traditional ruler had previously warned the armed men to keep away from the community. His position reportedly angered the suspected bandits, who later invaded his palace.

The attackers allegedly killed the monarch during the assault, leaving residents worried about the growing security challenges confronting communities within the Borgu Emirate.

The incident has also attracted attention because of the deceased’s reported relationship with the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security.

However, the Niger State Police Command had not officially confirmed the incident as of the time of the report.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, was reportedly said to be making further inquiries into the matter before providing an official update.

The reported killing comes amid continuing concerns over attacks by bandits and other criminal elements in parts of Niger State, with residents facing persistent threats to their safety.

Authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations into the incident continue.
