The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to publish the personal particulars of candidates nominated by political parties for the 2027 governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

The electoral body has scheduled the exercise for Saturday, August 29, 2026, as part of its preparations for the elections billed to take place on February 6, 2027.

The publication will give political parties, candidates and members of the public an opportunity to examine the information submitted to the commission and raise concerns where necessary.

Governorship elections will be conducted in 28 states, while elections into the State Houses of Assembly will take place across all 36 states of the federation. The states not holding governorship elections in 2027 are those operating under Nigeria’s off-cycle election arrangement.

The affected states are Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ekiti, Imo, Kogi, Ondo and Osun.

INEC’s timetable places the August 29 publication within a series of activities leading up to the 2027 polls. Political parties had earlier been required to submit their nomination forms for governorship and State Assembly candidates between July 3 and August 8, 2026.

The commission had also set August 22 as the deadline for the withdrawal or substitution of presidential and National Assembly candidates, while the deadline for withdrawal or substitution of governorship and State Assembly candidates is September 19.

The publication of the candidates’ particulars is expected to improve transparency in the electoral process by allowing stakeholders to scrutinise the information provided by political parties.

The 2027 electoral calendar will see Nigerians vote in the presidential and National Assembly elections on January 16, 2027, followed by the governorship and State House of Assembly elections on February 6, 2027.

With the publication date approaching, political parties and their candidates are expected to ensure that all submitted information is accurate and compliant with electoral requirements.
