Country music icon Dolly Parton has left fans with an unusual musical surprise — a previously unreleased song that is not expected to be heard publicly until 2045.

The song, titled “My Place in History,” was recorded by Parton as part of a time-capsule project connected to Dollywood. The track was deliberately kept away from the public and placed in a sealed box, ensuring that it would remain unheard for decades.

Parton had previously spoken about the recording and her plans for its eventual release. The song was created with future generations in mind and was intended to serve as a musical message from the legendary singer to people who would encounter her work long after her lifetime.

The recording was stored along with equipment that would allow it to be played when the capsule is eventually opened. Reports say the box is kept at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and is not scheduled to be opened until 2045.

The unusual arrangement has now attracted renewed attention following Parton’s death at the age of 80. Her passing has prompted tributes from fans, fellow entertainers and music lovers around the world, while interest in her extensive catalogue has also surged.

Parton, who enjoyed a career spanning nearly six decades, recorded numerous country classics and became one of the most influential figures in popular music. Her songs, including “Jolene” and “9 to 5,” helped establish her as a global music star, while her songwriting also produced enduring hits such as “I Will Always Love You.”

The secret recording adds another chapter to Parton’s remarkable legacy. For now, however, fans will have to wait until 2045 to hear the song she deliberately left behind for the future.
