President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of the appointments of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali Mohammed Ali.

The two media executives will serve for another three years, with their renewed tenure expected to commence on October 20, 2026.

The decision was contained in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the statement, Tinubu urged both executives to sustain the confidence placed in them by remaining committed to the mandates of their respective organisations.

The President also tasked them with supporting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through effective public information and media services.

Dembos and Ali were initially appointed by President Tinubu on October 20, 2023. Their new three-year tenure will therefore extend their leadership of the two federal media organisations beyond their initial term.

Dembos’ Career

Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, an indigene of Yola, Adamawa State, has spent decades working within the Nigerian Television Authority.

He began his career with NTA Kaduna as an announcer in 1989 after completing his National Youth Service. Over the years, he held several positions within the organisation, including General Manager at NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano.

Before his retirement in 2017, Dembos served as Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre. He also previously served as Executive Director of Marketing at NTA and was National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).

Ali’s Media Experience

Ali Mohammed Ali is an experienced journalist and media administrator with more than three decades in the profession.

His career has focused on journalism, media management and adapting news content to the changing demands of the digital media environment.

Ali holds a degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate qualification in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a postgraduate diploma in Mass Communication from Bayero University.

The Federal Government said the renewal reflects the President’s continued confidence in the leadership of the two executives as they steer NTA and NAN through their next three-year tenure.
