Super Falcons defender Oluwatosin Demehin has completed her move to Portuguese women’s football champions Benfica, signing a three-year contract that will keep her at the club until 2029.

The 24-year-old centre-back joins Benfica after spending two seasons with Turkish side Galatasaray, bringing her time in Istanbul to an end as she begins a new chapter in Portugal.

Demehin started her senior career in Nigeria, featuring for Sunshine Queens before moving to Rivers Angels in Port Harcourt. Her performances for Rivers Angels earned her a move to Europe in 2022, when she signed for French club Stade de Reims.

After two seasons in France, the Nigerian international moved to Galatasaray in 2024, where she continued to develop her experience at club level before securing the switch to Benfica.

Demehin Excited About Benfica Move

The defender said Benfica’s reputation and ambitions influenced her decision to join the Portuguese club.

She described Benfica as one of the leading clubs in the world and said she believes the move will help her improve her performances and develop further as a player.

Demehin also revealed that she consulted fellow Super Falcons international Christy Ucheibe before completing the transfer. Ucheibe, who is already part of Benfica’s women’s team, reportedly shared positive information about the club with her national teammate.

At Benfica, Demehin will wear the number four shirt as she joins a squad that has won six Portuguese women’s league titles.

International Experience

Demehin has established herself as an important member of the Nigeria women’s national team and has featured on major international stages.

She represented Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and was also part of the Super Falcons squad at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In 2025, she helped Nigeria win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.

Her arrival strengthens Benfica’s defensive options ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, while giving the Nigerian defender another opportunity to compete at a high level in European women’s football.

Demehin said her immediate priority is to contribute to the team’s success and help Benfica achieve its objectives during the new season.
