The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has indicated that petrol prices could be reviewed at filling stations across the Federal Capital Territory in the coming days.
The association’s National Publicity Secretary, Chinedu Ukadike, disclosed this on Thursday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
Ukadike explained that marketers were preparing to reassess their pricing and sales strategies as fresh supplies of petrol enter the market.
He, however, noted that there was no fixed date yet for the arrival of the new products, meaning the timing of the expected price adjustment remains uncertain.
According to him, once the new supplies begin arriving, marketers will respond by reviewing their prices and making the products available to consumers.
He said purchases could commence within the next few days, depending on when the supply process officially begins.
Ukadike added that any changes to pump prices would be implemented in accordance with existing regulations governing the downstream petroleum market.
Dangote Refinery’s Price Increase
The planned review comes after a series of increases in the ex-depot price of petrol by the Dangote Refinery.
According to NAN, the refinery raised its gantry price from N1,165 per litre to N1,185, then N1,200, before reaching N1,265 per litre within a week.
The successive adjustments have been reflected in retail petrol prices at several filling stations across Abuja.
The development has triggered concerns among motorists, many of whom have appealed to the Federal Government to take measures to prevent further increases and promote greater stability in petrol prices.
IPMAN’s latest position suggests that filling station operators will reassess their prices as new supplies become available, potentially bringing another round of changes to the retail fuel market.
The development comes amid continued volatility in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, where changes in supply costs have a direct impact on the prices paid by consumers.
