Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council after her name appeared on the party’s recently released campaign structure.
Abraham said she was not a member of the campaign council and maintained that she had decided to stay away from political activities.
Her reaction followed the release of the Lagos APC campaign council list, in which she was named alongside several entertainers under the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The list includes veteran actor Jide Kosoko, actors and actresses such as Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun and Bukky Wright, as well as Fuji musicians including Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Obesere and Adewale Ayuba.
According to the published structure, Toke Benson-Awoyinka was named Director of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate, with Jide Kosoko serving as Co-Director and Eniola Badmus as Deputy Director.
Abraham Clarifies Her Position
Reacting to the appearance of her name on the list, Abraham used her Instagram Story to clarify that she had not accepted membership of any campaign council.
She asked members of the public to disregard reports suggesting that she had joined the political campaign structure and reiterated her decision to remain outside politics.
The actress’s statement came shortly after the Lagos APC unveiled its campaign council ahead of the 2027 elections. The council was scheduled for formal inauguration on September 18, 2026, at the party’s secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja.
Previous Political Involvement
Abraham’s latest position follows her public involvement in the 2023 presidential election, when she expressed support for President Bola Tinubu.
That involvement attracted criticism on social media at the time, with the actress subsequently speaking publicly about the backlash she experienced.
In her latest clarification, however, Abraham said her decision was not influenced by online criticism. She explained that she rejected the reported appointment because her name had appeared on a list without her knowledge and because she had already decided not to participate in politics.
Despite her public rejection, Abraham’s name remained on the published 33-member Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate in the campaign council document available at the time of the reports.
