At least three police officers have reportedly been killed after suspected bandits ambushed a patrol team in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, around the Damba Division, according to a security source familiar with the attack.

The officers were said to have been on a routine night patrol when the armed assailants opened fire on their team.

The attack reportedly left the patrol vehicle riddled with bullets. Photographs from the scene showed visible bullet damage on the vehicle, which bore the inscription identifying it as belonging to the Damba Division of the Zamfara State Police Command.

As of the time of reporting, the Zamfara State Police Command had yet to officially confirm the incident or release an official account of the reported casualties.

The latest attack comes days after another reported ambush on a convoy of traders travelling under military escort in Zamfara State, in which at least 20 people were reportedly killed.

The recurring attacks have continued to raise concerns about the security situation in the state and the risks faced by security personnel and civilians.

Further details about the latest incident, including an official confirmation of the casualties and any arrests, were not immediately available.
