OSOGBO — Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has taken a commanding lead in the Osun State governorship election as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concludes the announcement of results from all 30 local government areas in the state.

The results announced at the state collation centre in Osogbo show Adeleke winning 19 local government areas, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, secured victory in 11 LGAs.

The development places the incumbent governor in a strong position ahead of the final declaration by the INEC Returning Officer.

A review of the announced figures showed Adeleke with 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,811 votes, giving the Accord candidate a lead of 66,256 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes based on the aggregate figures reported from the 30 LGAs.

The final results followed the collation of figures from polling units through the ward and local government levels before being presented at the state collation centre.

With results from all 30 LGAs now announced, attention is focused on the INEC Returning Officer for the formal declaration of the winner.

The election was contested by candidates from several political parties, with Adeleke of the Accord Party and Oyebamiji of the APC emerging as the leading contenders.

INEC’s final declaration will formally determine the winner of the August 15 governorship election.
