The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Seyi Makinde following a fresh attack by suspected bandits in the state, questioning the effectiveness of the government’s security measures.

The opposition party’s reaction followed an attack on an Operation Burst base along the Igbeti-Igboho Road, an incident that has renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Oyo State.

The APC expressed concern over the reported attack, particularly against the backdrop of the state government’s earlier investment in security equipment and surveillance infrastructure.

The party also questioned the whereabouts and operational effectiveness of surveillance aircraft acquired to support security operations across the state.

However, the Oyo State Government has responded to the incident, confirming that security agencies have arrested suspects in connection with the attack.

The government also disclosed that surveillance aircraft have been deployed to support ongoing security operations and assist security personnel in tracking the movement of criminal elements.

Officials said the deployment is aimed at strengthening aerial surveillance and improving the ability of security agencies to respond quickly to threats in remote and difficult-to-access areas.

The government maintained that security agencies were actively pursuing those responsible for the latest incident and would continue operations until the perpetrators were brought to justice.

The development comes amid growing concerns about the spread of banditry and other criminal activities into previously less-affected areas of the South-West.

The latest incident has also triggered renewed political debate over the state government’s handling of security, with the APC using the attack to demand greater accountability and stronger measures to protect residents.

The government, however, has continued to emphasise its collaboration with security agencies and the deployment of technology and other resources to tackle criminal activities across Oyo State.

Security authorities are expected to sustain surveillance and intelligence operations in affected areas as investigations into the attack continue.
