President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has begun preparations for the 2027 presidential election with the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator, Abdulaziz Yari, has been appointed Director-General of the campaign council, placing him at the centre of the party’s efforts to secure another presidential victory.
The President will chair the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as vice chairmen.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has been appointed secretary of the council. The APC National Secretary, Ajibola Bashiru, will serve as deputy secretary, while Hadiza Bala-Usman takes the position of assistant secretary.
The campaign structure also brings together several senior APC figures and political leaders who will serve in different capacities as the party prepares for the 2027 contest.
Among those listed as advisers are former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas are also part of the leadership structure. Other notable members include Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau.
Former APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole is expected to coordinate mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will oversee administrative responsibilities in his capacity as a deputy director-general.
James Faleke, who played a prominent role in the APC’s previous presidential campaign, has also been assigned a senior role as Deputy Director-General in charge of election planning, coordination and monitoring.
The council will operate across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with designated officials responsible for coordinating campaign activities in the North-West, North-East, North-Central, South-West, South-East and South-South.
The legal affairs directorate will be headed by Muiz Adeyemi Banire, while the media and strategic communications team will feature Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris, Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.
Segun Dada has been retained as Director of New Media, while five officials have been selected to serve as campaign spokespersons, with Dele Alake heading the team.
Announcing the appointments, the Presidency said Tinubu charged members of the campaign council to work towards delivering victory for the APC in the 2027 presidential election.
The President also encouraged the campaign team to make use of experienced party members and other capable individuals who could contribute to the party’s electoral campaign.
The formation of the council marks a significant step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with the party expected to intensify its nationwide mobilisation and communication efforts as the election approaches.
