A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Hadiza Liman, has left the party and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Liman announced her decision on Friday while speaking with journalists at her residence in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital. She said she was joining the NDC alongside supporters drawn from the state’s 14 local government areas.
Explaining her decision, the former APC member accused Governor Dauda Lawal of neglecting her group despite the support they provided during his political journey.
Liman said she and her supporters had followed Lawal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC after supporting his emergence as governor in 2023.
She expressed confidence in the NDC and declared her backing for the party’s Zamfara governorship candidate, Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, ahead of the 2027 election.
The APC chieftain also called on residents of Zamfara State to support Marafa, expressing optimism that the NDC would make a strong showing in the forthcoming governorship poll.
Her defection comes as political activities intensify across Zamfara State ahead of the 2027 elections, with politicians and their supporters increasingly realigning with different political platforms.
The development is expected to add to the growing political competition in the state as parties work to strengthen their structures and mobilise support ahead of the election.
