President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the operationalisation of new Nigerian Army formations in four states as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s response to security threats.

The new formations are located in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun states, bringing military personnel closer to communities considered vulnerable to attacks and other security challenges.

Tinubu made this known in a statement shared on his official social media account, where he said the development would improve the military’s ability to respond quickly and effectively whenever communities come under threat.

According to the President, the Federal Government is also accelerating the construction of additional military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi states. He noted that the construction of the facility planned for Osun State has already been completed.

Tinubu explained that the infrastructure projects are intended to improve the working and living conditions of members of the Armed Forces and their families.

The President also highlighted the impact of the recently approved salary increase for military personnel, saying feedback from servicemen and women indicated that the improved pay was making a difference in the lives of troops and their families.

He stressed that military service involves sacrifices not only by personnel but also by their relatives who remain at home while their loved ones are deployed.

Tinubu said his administration has a responsibility to ensure that the Armed Forces receive the necessary resources and support to carry out their duties effectively.

The latest development follows the Federal Government’s broader restructuring of the Nigerian Army, including the expansion of the Army from eight to 12 divisions and the establishment of new divisional headquarters in Makurdi, Ilorin, Jalingo and Benin City. The restructuring is aimed at improving command, strengthening operational coverage and enabling faster responses to security threats across the country.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s military personnel and improving the capacity of the Armed Forces to protect citizens and maintain national security.
