The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) have reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to support credible and peaceful conduct of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The agencies renewed their commitment during a stakeholders’ engagement on election administration and security held in Abuja on Tuesday.

NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, represented by the Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services, Mrs Abdulwahab Olayinka, said the scheme would continue providing corps members to support electoral activities.

Nafiu said the NYSC had established monitoring and supervisory mechanisms to ensure corps members deployed for election duties maintained discipline, integrity and political neutrality.

He assured INEC that participating corps members would receive appropriate training and orientation before deployment. He added that the scheme would work with security agencies to help protect corps members and ensure they could perform their duties in a safe environment.

The NYSC director-general also appealed to political leaders, security agencies and community stakeholders to promote peaceful conditions during elections, noting that corps members serving as ad hoc election staff needed adequate protection.

He further urged INEC to ensure timely payment of election allowances to corps members and promptly address any difficulties associated with bank payments.

In his remarks, NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the agency would intensify nationwide voter education and grassroots sensitisation ahead of the elections.

Issa-Onilu said the NOA’s presence across the country, including offices in all 774 local government areas, would help it reach communities with information about voter registration, civic responsibility and peaceful participation in the electoral process.

He disclosed that the agency was preparing to launch a nationwide voter education initiative and would collaborate with INEC, security agencies, media organisations and other stakeholders to implement the programme.

According to him, the NOA also works with 253 radio stations, 72 television channels and digital media influencers to broaden the reach of its public awareness campaigns.

He said the agency would use its nationwide network to encourage citizens to participate responsibly in the elections and support efforts to strengthen electoral credibility.

The renewed partnership comes as INEC and its partners continue preparations for the 2027 polls, with voter education, election worker training, security and public confidence among the key areas requiring sustained coordination.
