The Federal Government has proposed a unified timetable for major external examinations in 2027, with the aim of ensuring that results are released by August and tertiary institution admission processes can begin in September.
The plan covers examinations organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS).
The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s education reform programme under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), led by the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa.
To coordinate the process, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, held a meeting with representatives and heads of the examination bodies at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja.
Discussions focused on aligning examination dates, reducing clashes between examination schedules and improving the timely processing and release of results.
Proposed 2027 Examination Timetable
Under the proposed schedule, the major examinations are expected to take place as follows:
JAMB UTME: March 15–25, 2027, with results expected in March.
NECO SSCE: April 1–May 14, 2027, with results targeted for August.
WAEC WASSCE: May 11–June 18, 2027, with results targeted for August.
NABTEB: June 1–July 5, 2027, with results expected in August.
NBAIS: June 10–July 9, 2027, with results expected in August
The Ministry of Education said it would continue working with the examination bodies to encourage compliance with the proposed dates and strengthen accountability in the administration of national examinations.
The harmonisation effort is intended to improve coordination between examinations, the release of results and tertiary admissions, reducing delays for candidates seeking entry into universities and other higher institutions.
The Federal Government said the initiative supports its broader education reform objectives and aims to improve efficiency across the country’s examination system.
Note: The dates are described as proposed or targeted timelines. Candidates should monitor official announcements from JAMB, WAEC, NECO and the Federal Ministry of Education for any updates or final confirmation.
