Nigerian gospel music has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular singer and minister Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, widely known as Toluwanisings.
The singer’s family confirmed his passing in a statement shared on his social media account, announcing that he died in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Toluwanisings, who was associated with Toluwani Gospel Music Ministry (TOGOMM), was remembered by his family as a beloved husband, relative and dedicated gospel minister.
The family appealed to the public to pray for his wife and other loved ones as they navigate the difficult period. It also stated that information concerning his funeral arrangements would be made available in due course.
Death Triggers Emotional Reactions
News of the gospel artiste’s passing sparked an outpouring of grief among fans, fellow musicians and other public figures, many of whom expressed shock over the development.
Pelumi Olajengbesi, convener of the Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers and Advocates (COPA), took to social media to express his sorrow.
In a post accompanying a photograph of the singer, Olajengbesi lamented the loss of young people and called for divine mercy.
He described the recurring deaths of young men and women as deeply troubling, adding that the development had left him distressed.
An X user identified as Ennybets also recounted an emotional scene he said he witnessed at a hospital on Wednesday.
According to his account, he had accompanied his wife for antenatal care when a vehicle arrived carrying a popular gospel musician. He initially expressed hope that the singer would survive.
In a subsequent post, the user described seeing members of the musician’s band grieving over his death.
Gospel singer Mega99 also paid tribute, describing Toluwanisings as a gifted artiste with a distinctive voice.

Although the singer’s family confirmed his death, the cause of his passing had not been publicly disclosed as of the time of this report.
