Hull City have maintained their impressive beginning to the 2026/27 Premier League campaign after securing a narrow 1–0 away win against Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The newly promoted Tigers sealed their second consecutive victory through substitute Liam Millar, who scored late in the encounter to preserve Hull City’s 100 per cent record after two matches.
The result follows their eye-catching 2–0 home victory over Manchester United on the opening weekend.
Millar Delivers Late Winner
Hull City and Coventry played out a closely contested first half, with neither side able to break the deadlock.
The visitors, managed by Sergej Jakirović, remained organised defensively despite the pressure of playing away from home. Lewie Coyle and Regan Slater were among the Hull players booked during a physical opening period.
Jakirović turned to Millar in the 58th minute, bringing the substitute on to provide additional pace and attacking threat.
His decision eventually paid off.
With just eight minutes remaining, Millar reacted quickly to a loose ball inside Coventry’s penalty area before sending a low shot beyond goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.
The goal went through a VAR review before being confirmed, giving Hull City a valuable three points.
Jakirović praised his players for maintaining their focus throughout the match, particularly after the emotional high of beating Manchester United in their opening fixture.
The Hull manager said the away trip was always going to test the team’s character, but praised the squad for remaining disciplined until the final whistle.
Tigers Maintain Strong Defensive Record
Hull City’s early success has also been built on a solid defence.
Following their clean-sheet victory over Manchester United, the Tigers produced another shutout at Coventry. Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy, who both found the net in the opening-day victory, again played important roles at the heart of the defence.
Goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis also contributed to Hull’s second successive clean sheet.
The victory keeps Hull among the early leaders of the Premier League and gives the newly promoted side maximum points from their first two fixtures.
Aston Villa Next for Hull City
Hull City will now turn their attention to their next league assignment against Aston Villa.
The Tigers are scheduled to return to the MKM Stadium on Saturday, September 5, where they will look to extend their winning run before the international break.
