The Lagos State Government has announced a temporary closure and traffic diversion plan for Oke-Afa Bridge in the Isolo area as rehabilitation work begins on the facility.
The traffic management arrangement is expected to last for three weeks, from August 28 to September 18, 2026, with motorists advised to prepare for changes in movement around the bridge.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the development in a statement, explaining that the rehabilitation would be carried out in two phases to reduce the impact on traffic.
The first phase will run from August 28 to September 11 and will affect the outbound section of the bridge connecting Isolo to Ejigbo.
During this period, vehicles heading from Isolo towards Ejigbo will be diverted onto the opposite carriageway from Pako Roundabout. Traffic will operate in both directions along that section before motorists return to the main carriageway around Mobil Filling Station.
Motorists travelling from Ejigbo towards Isolo will continue using their existing route but will share part of the carriageway with vehicles heading in the opposite direction.
The second phase, scheduled for September 12 to September 18, will affect the inbound Isolo section for motorists coming from Ejigbo.
Under the arrangement, Ejigbo-to-Isolo traffic will be diverted onto the Ejigbo-bound carriageway from Mobil Filling Station, with vehicles travelling in both directions until they reconnect with the main road at Pako Roundabout.
Osiyemi said the temporary closure was necessary to allow contractors to carry out the rehabilitation safely and efficiently.
The project is being undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Works, through the Office of the Federal Controller in Lagos, in collaboration with Strabic Construction Limited.
The commissioner added that personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to manage vehicular movement and minimise congestion throughout the construction period.
An emergency towing vehicle will also be stationed along the route to quickly remove broken-down vehicles and prevent them from causing additional traffic obstruction.
The state government appealed to motorists to plan their journeys ahead, obey traffic officials and exercise patience while the rehabilitation work is ongoing.
The authorities said the traffic diversion measures were designed to keep vehicles moving as much as possible while ensuring that the bridge receives the repairs required.
