This is Davido’s grandmother, Mrs. Nnenna Esther Adeleke (née Akpara), the first and only woman in Nigeria currently to have given birth to two elected state governors.

One woman, two sons who became governors, another son who became a billionaire businessman, and a grandson who became one of Africa’s biggest music stars.

She gave birth to Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the first elected civilian Governor of Osun State, and Ademola Adeleke, the current Governor of Osun State.

She was also the mother of Adedeji Adeleke, billionaire businessman, founder of Adeleke University, and father of Afrobeats superstar Davido.

Mrs. Nnenna Esther Adeleke hailed from Akwete Ndoki in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State. She married Senator Ayoola Adeleke from Ede, Osun State, a union that crossed ethnic and regional lines.

Her family home in Akwete is still known as “The Adeleke House,” located behind the historic Akwete Cathedral Anglican Church.

The Adeleke family continues to maintain strong ties with Akwete, offering scholarships to indigenes to study at Adeleke University and providing community support, especially during festive periods.

From Akwete in Abia State to Ede in Osun State, her legacy continues to inspire.
