The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commenced a nationwide inspection of Federal Government road projects leading to tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The exercise is aimed at assessing the condition, quality and impact of federal road projects on students and other members of the academic community who depend on the roads for daily movement.

The nationwide tour began in Kaduna State, where the NANS leadership inspected the ongoing Federal Government road project along the Kaduna-Abuja corridor.

The association’s President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, said the inspection started at the Federal Co-operative College in Kaduna, which is directly served by the Kaduna-Abuja Road.

According to the student body, the road provides an important access route for students travelling to and from the institution.

The NANS delegation subsequently proceeded to Kano State as part of the inspection exercise, where it examined the Kaduna-Kano Road around Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education.

The association said the assessment focused on the quality of the road infrastructure and its effect on students’ movement within and around the institutions.

NANS explained that the nationwide exercise would enable student representatives to have firsthand knowledge of the condition of federal roads connecting tertiary institutions in different parts of the country.

The association has also acknowledged ongoing government investment in road infrastructure, particularly projects affecting access to educational institutions.

The inspection comes amid continued concerns over the condition of roads used by students, staff and other road users across the country.

NANS said the tour would provide an opportunity to document conditions on the affected routes and assess how road projects are influencing accessibility and transportation around tertiary institutions.

The student body is expected to continue the inspection across other states as the nationwide tour progresses.
