Stakeholders of the All-Progressives Congress, APC, in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State have resolved to work for the re-election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, declaring that the State is in a period of “transition from kakistocracy to meritocracy.” The resolution was reached in Warri on Sunday, 6th September, 2026, during a strategic meeting convened by Delta State, former House of Assembly member and current Director, Delta State PPPRP, Hon. Gibson Akporehe. Welcoming members to the gathering, Hon. Akporehe said the meeting was borne out of the need for Uvwie sons, daughters, and residents to take ownership of governance and politics in the State, identify obstacles and articulate practical solutions to ensure Uvwie leads in vote delivery for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
He described the last three years under Governor Oborevwori as a period of resetting governance in the State noting that the governor’s performance had earned him calls for a second term not only from Uvwie but across Delta State. *“For me, what our brother, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has been able to achieve within his first tenure is commendable. His performance has been so remarkable that many residents across the state are already calling for the renewal of his mandate,”* He said.
Hon. Akporehe however, maintained that divisiveness and exclusion within the Uvwie APC could undermine the goal of delivering the highest number of votes for the governor in 2027 citing the defection of some party members and feelings of neglect among original APC members whose “Tatitan slots” and privileges were allegedly withdrawn and handed to other candidates. According to Hon. Akporehe the aggrieved key figures now provide rallying points for opposition parties in Uvwie. He urged the party leadership to engage them through delegation rather than undermine them. Quoting a Uvwie proverb, “Ojefiare Onye Edjor Re Hwo Orakpor,” he stressed the importance of respect and inclusion in politics.
Drawing lessons from past administrations, Hon. Akporehe noted that during the tenures of Chief James Ibori and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, their constituencies did not become strongholds of opposition. The convener therefore, charged every Uvwie indigene and resident to take responsibility to mobilize votes for the governor. Lending their voices, the Unuevworo of Orikpor, Chief V.O Otomewo, President General of Uvwie Kingdom, High Chief Hope Abovi Erute, Dr Johnson Agagbo, and other stakeholders, at the meeting called for the immediate reconciliation of all aggrieved APC members in Uvwie in order to bring about the targeted goal of delivering a landslide victory. In his closing remarks, Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Hon. Sony Akporokimo Ekedayen who lauded all participants for their commitment also appreciated the convener, Hon. Akporehe, for initiating the strategic meeting, urging stakeholders to translate the resolutions into concrete grassroots action ahead of the 2027 polls.
The meeting ended with a call for healing, unity, and strategic mobilization ahead of the next election cycle.
