Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has raised concerns over alleged attempts by opposition parties, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC), to manipulate Saturday’s governorship election.

Adeleke, who spoke shortly after casting his ballot, accused some members of the Nigeria Police Force of allegedly supporting efforts to disrupt voting in parts of the state.

The governor called for a peaceful election, stressing the need for voters to freely exercise their civic rights.

“We don’t want violence in Osun. All we want is free and fair election so that people can perform their civic duty,” Adeleke said.

He also warned against any attempt to deviate from the established collation process, insisting that results should move from polling units to wards and subsequently to local government areas before reaching the state level.

Adeleke said any attempt to bypass the prescribed process and move local government results directly to the state capital would amount to electoral manipulation.

The governor further alleged that the APC was planning to introduce fake ballot papers into the electoral process.

The allegations could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report. The police and APC are expected to respond to the claims.
