The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, identified as Adeniyi Benjamin, for allegedly practising medicine without the required qualifications and operating an unlicensed medical facility in Ibadan.
Benjamin was arrested on October 2, 2026, at about 3 p.m. by operatives of the command’s Monitoring Unit following intelligence concerning activities at Life Is Good Hospital in the Olodo area of the city.
According to the police, officers who visited the facility found the suspect attending to patients and administering treatments, including fertility-related procedures, despite allegedly not being a certified medical doctor.
The operation reportedly led to the recovery of several items from the facility. These included two weighing scales, four Quantum Magnetic Resonance Body Analysers, a stethoscope, a carton containing assorted medicines and specimen bottles.
During preliminary questioning, police said Benjamin admitted that he had been practising as an unqualified medical practitioner for about seven years. He allegedly acknowledged that he had no medical licence or the necessary qualifications to practise as a doctor.
The suspect also reportedly told investigators that he specialised in fertility-related treatments, which he had been providing to patients at the facility.
The police said the case raises concerns about the potential dangers posed to members of the public who seek treatment from individuals without the appropriate medical training or professional certification, particularly in sensitive areas such as fertility care.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged illegal practice and determine whether other individuals were involved.
Benjamin was among suspects paraded by the Oyo State Police Command in Ibadan in connection with various criminal cases. The command said further investigation would determine the next steps in the case.
