Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has disclosed that he earns a monthly salary of ₦503,000, while Permanent Secretaries in the state receive about ₦900,000.
The governor made the disclosure on Thursday in Asaba during the inauguration of 12 four-bedroom terraced duplexes and the presentation of 12 official vehicles to newly appointed Permanent Secretaries.
Oborevwori explained that the state government increased the remuneration of Permanent Secretaries after some of them complained that directors were earning salaries close to theirs.
He also disclosed that the Head of Service in Delta State earns about ₦1 million monthly.
According to the governor, the welfare of civil servants has remained a priority of his administration, with several initiatives introduced to improve their working conditions and support their wellbeing.
He said the latest batch of 12 official vehicles was presented to newly appointed Permanent Secretaries to improve their mobility and enable them to perform their duties more effectively.
Beyond official vehicles, Oborevwori said 302 public officers had benefited from the state’s vehicle loan scheme, while another 119 had accessed the Public Officers’ Housing Loan Scheme.
The governor further stated that civil servants interested in agriculture had been supported with farm inputs as part of efforts to help them generate additional income while contributing to food production.
He added that 450 senior management officers had benefited from a seven-weekend training programme organised in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria.
Oborevwori also said the appointment of 12 Permanent Secretaries in May was designed to ensure that all 25 local government areas in Delta State were represented within the senior administrative structure of the civil service.
The governor maintained that the appointments were based on merit rather than political recommendations.
He further noted that Delta State was among the first states to implement the new national minimum wage, following consultations with relevant government officials and organised labour.
The governor said his administration would continue to focus on improving workers’ welfare, strengthening the civil service and creating conditions that would encourage better productivity and service delivery.
