The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have announced a ₦4,000 one-time fee for candidates seeking to verify their WASSCE/O’Level results as part of the tertiary admission process.

The new arrangement is aimed at simplifying the verification process for admission seekers and reducing the financial and logistical burden caused by repeated verification requests from different institutions.

Under the arrangement, candidates whose admissions are coordinated by JAMB will be required to verify their WAEC O’Level results once through the designated JAMB Verification Service.

Once the verification has been completed, JAMB will make the outcome available to the relevant tertiary institution for admission screening, processing and other related administrative purposes.

Candidates to Pay Only Once

JAMB and WAEC clarified that the ₦4,000 payment is a one-off charge and should be made through the approved JAMB platform rather than directly to individual tertiary institutions.

Candidates who have successfully completed the verification process will not be expected to pay another verification fee to their chosen institutions for the same result and admission process.

The arrangement is expected to prevent students from repeatedly paying for verification whenever their academic credentials are required by different institutions.

Verified Results to Be Shared With Institutions

WAEC has authorised JAMB to transmit the outcome of the verification process to the relevant tertiary institutions.

This means that once a candidate’s result has been successfully verified through JAMB, the institution can access the verified information for admission-related purposes without requiring the candidate to repeat the exercise.

The two examination bodies said the new system is designed to make the admission process more convenient while maintaining the security and credibility of candidates’ academic records.

Why JAMB and WAEC Introduced the New System

The new arrangement is expected to reduce the stress associated with multiple verification exercises and help candidates save money and time during the admission process.

It will also help strengthen the verification of academic credentials and reduce the possibility of candidates presenting fraudulent or altered examination results.

Candidates will be able to complete the verification process through the designated JAMB platform, after which the verified information can be used by the relevant institution.

The development comes as Nigerian students continue preparations for the 2026/2027 admission exercise, with O’Level results remaining an important requirement for admission into tertiary institutions.

JAMB and WAEC advised candidates to use the approved verification channel and keep their verification information for subsequent admission procedures.

The new “verify once, use multiple times” arrangement is expected to reduce unnecessary costs and make the admission process more efficient for candidates across Nigeria.
