Ahead of the 2027 Elections, Leaders and prominent stakeholders of Uvwie Local Government Area on Sunday 23, August, 2026 converged to deliberate on mobilization strategies.
The meeting, convened by a former Delta State House of Assembly lawmaker and current Director of PPPRP, Delta State, Hon. Gibson Akporehe, came up in a bid to ensure overwhelming support for President Bola Tinubu and the performing Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
In his welcome address, Hon. Akporehe urged stakeholders to do everything within their reach to make the election a success for APC, stressing the need for full fledged participation and total commitment, saying the contests should be treated “as though each and every one of our names is on the ballot.”
Hon. Akporehe described the emergence of an Uwvie son as Governor a rare privilege, noting that the dialectical problems of Uwvie-Urhobo speaking people had delayed such political attainment.
“In our lifetime, one of our own brothers and friends has been entrusted with the rare privilege of governing our dear state,” he said. “When we ventured into politics in the early 1990s, it was never within my expectation that, in my lifetime, one of us would rise to become the Governor of this state.” He said
While commending the Governor for various landmark achievements, Hon. Akporehe warned against complacency, stating that the political terrain in a cosmopolitan LGA like Uwvie remains volatile
“To become complacent or relaxed simply because our brother has performed so well may not be a correct reading of today’s political dynamics,” he stated.
He further linked the outcome in Uwvie to the presidential election, describing it as the contest that sets the tone for all others.
Hon. Akporehe compared President Tinubu’s economic reforms, to the transformational policies of Lee Juan Yew of Singapore, saying the pains were necessary for overhauling of the Country.
“reinvent Nigeria and position our country as a major player on the global stage.” “The sentiments and criticisms directed at President Bola Tinubu by a largely uninformed section of the population must not be ignored by those of us who genuinely understand and appreciate the work being done by the President,” Hon. Akporehe said.
Hon. Akporehe also called for the establishment of committees to identify challenges and take proactive steps towards the success of the forthcoming elections.
The PPPRP Director, advocated for a road map to deliver high votes in Uwvie for both the President and sitting Governor, citing the Rivers State model under Nyesom Wike as a reference.
Responding, stakeholders at the meeting also expressed their views that the president’s hard economic policies could affect APC’s chances in Uwvie if not properly managed.
The speakers, Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning;Hon. Sony Akporokiamo Ekedayen, CEO Amity Farms; Amb. Idama Amurun, and President General of Uvwie Kingdom,High Chief Hope Abovi Erute, among others affirmed that opposition parties are intensifying political activities in Uvwie. They appealed President Bola Tinubu to balance the his reforms with immediate relief for citizens who are bearing the brunt of current economic realities.
They also called on all APC Leaders to as a matter of urgency address the concerns and articulate strategies to win back confidence ahead of 2027 Polls.
In his closing remarks, Amb. Idama Amurun, CEO Amity Farms, who lauded all participants for their commitment also appreciated the convener, Hon. Akporehe, for initiating the strategic meeting, urging stakeholders to translate the resolutions into concrete grassroots action ahead of the 2027 polls.
