President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian filmmakers Damilola Osikoya and Nora Awolowo after their film Black Market secured a Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film screening.

Osikoya, of Switch Visual Production, and Awolowo, of Rixel Studios, achieved the record during a screening of Black Market in Lagos on September 26, 2026. Guinness World Records recognised 51,000 qualifying viewers at the event.

In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the filmmakers for their creativity, determination and entrepreneurial drive.

The President described the achievement as evidence of the growing talent and influence of Nigeria’s creative industry on the international stage.

Tinubu also highlighted the wider economic role of the creative sector, noting that industries such as film, music, fashion and art are creating businesses, generating employment and providing opportunities for Nigerian talent to reach audiences around the world.

According to the President, the success of Black Market demonstrates the possibilities that can emerge when creativity is combined with enterprise and the ability to operate at scale.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating more opportunities for young Nigerians to turn their creative abilities into sustainable livelihoods and globally competitive businesses.

Tinubu commended Osikoya, Awolowo and everyone involved in the production and record-setting screening of Black Market, while wishing the team continued success.

The achievement adds to the growing international recognition of Nigeria’s film industry and highlights the potential of the country’s creative economy to showcase Nigerian stories and talent globally.
